(Central News Agency, Reporter Tsao Ya-Yen, New Taipei, 23rd) The opening event for the 2026 New Taipei Archaeology Season took place today. For the first time, it has partnered with the Korea National Maritime Museum to launch a special exhibition aiming to protect the skills of Taiwanese and Korean Haenyeo (sea women). The highlight "Archaeology Life Festival" will also be held on the 25th and 26th, gathering over 40 domestic and international organizations to let the public experience the charm of the ocean through fun activities.

The 2026 New Taipei Archaeology Season held its opening event today at the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology. Deputy Secretary-General of the New Taipei City Government, Ke Ching-Chung, stated that this year's season is highly significant. It has allied with the Korea National Maritime Museum for the first time to present the "Our Sea Life — Taiwan-Korea Marine Culture Exchange Exhibition," demonstrating the sustainable spirit of "coexistence between humans and the sea."

At the event, the Korea National Maritime Museum presented precious Korean Haenyeo diving gear. Director Kim Jong-Hae emphasized in his speech that this collaboration deepens the connection between the two countries in preserving marine cultural heritage. He hopes they can continue to protect precious marine cultural memories together through physical exhibitions and academic research.

According to the press release, this year's New Taipei Archaeology Season is themed "Sustainable Blue in Progress." The main event, the "Archaeology Life Festival," will grandly take place on the 25th and 26th. Visitors can experience challenges and hands-on activities from over 40 domestic and international institutions, including "Inuit Snow Goggle Decoration" from the Jeongok Prehistory Museum in Korea, "Shark Tooth Stone Necklace DIY" from the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Archaeology in Japan, maritime trade experiences provided by the Museum of Anthropology at National Taiwan University, and the "Burn One's Boats" underwater archaeology simulation from National Tsing Hua University, where participants can dive into a simulated sea to see a shipwreck site firsthand.

The Shihsanhang Museum pointed out that as a finale on May 16th and 17th, it will host the "Shihsanhang Green Fashion X Little Tree Market." Over 200 booths will be set up to promote the circulation of second-hand goods and sustainable education experiences, using practical actions to build a green museum that coexists with the environment.

Museum Director Lo Pei-Hsuan stated that the New Taipei Archaeology Season is not just a carnival for all citizens, but also a crucial practice in cultural rooting and environmental education. The "Cultural Heritage Enters Campus" activity, which began in March, has brought marine culture and Haenyeo knowledge to 8 elementary schools on the North Coast. Furthermore, the museum has collaborated with National Taiwan Ocean University to develop Haenyeo-themed creative merchandise, using the proceeds to give back to the Mao'ao community and support elderly care.

During the weekend's "Archaeology Life Festival," free shuttle buses will be available at MRT Guandu Station, Luzhou Station, and Bali Ferry Pier. For more details, please visit the Shihsanhang Museum's official website. (Editor: Lin Shu-Hui) 1150423
