(CNA, New York 23rd, Foreign Dispatch) Meta plans to lay off one-tenth of its employees. While heavily investing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Meta is seeking to make its retained employees more productive.

A source revealed to AFP that Meta will cut about 8,000 jobs next month and leave thousands of other positions open and unfilled.

This move comes as co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg makes developing "Superintelligence" a top priority. Currently, Meta is engaged in a high-cost AI race with rivals like Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

Today's report also indicates that Microsoft is seeking to streamline its workforce through a voluntary early retirement program, an unprecedented move for the tech giant founded in 1975.

According to US financial media CNBC, about 7% of Microsoft's US employees are eligible for this early retirement. The program targets employees at the senior director level or below, whose combined age and years of service total 70 or more.

Microsoft is also pouring billions of dollars into the AI sector. The company declined to comment on this news.

Meta and Microsoft are expected to release their quarterly earnings reports next week.

Meta's quarterly earnings report released in January this year exceeded market expectations, benefiting from revenue growth and continuous investments in the AI sector.

The financial report noted that Meta's costs for that quarter reached $35.15 billion, a 40% increase compared to the same period last year. (Translation: Chen Yuting) 1150424
