(CNA Reporter Wang Chao-yu, Keelung, 22nd) A man was found dead on his bed in his Keelung apartment today. Because there was a warning sign on the door indicating the presence of highly toxic hydrogen cyanide (HCN), a professional team from the Ministry of Environment conducted tests and ruled out the presence of HCN in the house. The cause of the man's death is pending further investigation by relevant authorities.
Around 11:00 AM, the police received a report that the smell of a corpse was coming from a home in a community. After firefighters broke down the door to check, they found the man lying on his bedroom bed, clearly deceased. A piece of paper taped to the door read, "There is HCN inside."
Not daring to be careless, police and firefighters immediately notified relevant units to assist. The Chemicals Administration of the Ministry of Environment and the Northern Region Environmental Incident Professional Technical Team arrived at the scene, wearing protective suits to carry out detection operations, while firefighters cooperated to set up a decontamination tent.
Wang Po-sheng, Deputy Commander of the First Battalion of the Keelung City Fire Department, pointed out that hydrogen cyanide is highly toxic, and both inhalation or contact with human skin can cause death. After the technical team went upstairs and conducted tests, they ruled out the presence of hydrogen cyanide in the house. The wastewater generated from the preventive decontamination was also tested and contained no hydrogen cyanide components. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching)
