(Central News Agency, Reporters Chao Li-Yen, Su Mu-Chun, Taichung, 23rd) NASA astronaut Kjell Lindgren shared images of Taiwan taken from space today. In the photos, Taiwan looks like a green jewel in the mist, breathtakingly beautiful. He also encouraged Taiwanese students to chase their space dreams, looking forward to seeing them in space in the future.

Accompanied by Raymond Greene, Director of the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), and Chen Chia-Chun, Taichung City Cultural Affairs Bureau Director, Kjell Lindgren visited founder Liu Che-Chi at Liu's Bakery in Taichung this morning. The group later went to the Meicun Comprehensive Service Park, where they were greeted by Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen, who introduced the building that was formerly a US military joint logistics clubhouse, now repurposed for children, youth, and women.

Lindgren shared that when looking out from the spacecraft, he always searched for places where he, his family, or friends were, or places he wanted to visit in the future. He noted that Earth is incredibly beautiful no matter how you look at it from outer space.

Showing photos of Earth taken from space, Lindgren pointed out that the blue, white, green, and brown color patches form a beautiful Earth. Taiwan, he said, looks like a green jewel in the mist, taking one's breath away. He truly felt Taiwan's beauty while taking the photos.

He stated that this is a thrilling golden age for spaceflight and development. The data he collected recently during the Artemis 2 mission will be of great help for returning to the moon. He encouraged Taiwanese youth who dream of going to space and entering the space industry to keep pursuing their dreams, study science, technology, and math, adding, "I believe I will see you in space in the future."

In her speech, Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen mentioned that Lindgren's father was in the Air Force and was stationed at the Ching Chuan Kang Air Base. His parents met, fell in love, married, and had him in Taichung. Lindgren lived in Taichung as a child, and Mayor Lu warmly remarked, "He is our family."

Returning to Taichung, Lindgren mentioned that he lived there as a child, later moved abroad, and eventually went to outer space, orbiting the Earth many times. Returning to Taichung this time felt like completing a certain circle in his life, making it feel fulfilled.

Liu's Bakery, located in Taichung's West District, helped supply bread during the US military's stationing in Taiwan, and its "Apple Bread" is an iconic product. During the meeting, Liu Che-Chi presented a specially made star-shaped bread, and Lindgren reciprocated with badges and stickers in a warm atmosphere.

In his speech, Lindgren thanked Liu Che-Chi for his service and dedication to the community and military families at that time. He mused that he must have eaten Liu's bread as a child, which helped him grow strong and become an astronaut, expressing his gratitude for Liu's contributions. (Editor: Chang Ya-Ching) 1150423
