(CNA, Washington, 22nd, Comprehensive Foreign Dispatch) Israel and Lebanon are set to hold a new round of negotiations in Washington tomorrow, with Beirut requesting a one-month extension of the expiring ceasefire agreement. Furthermore, the US Embassy in Beirut has urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately.

According to an AFP report, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun stated today: "Relevant authorities are working hard to coordinate an extension of the ceasefire agreement."

Prior to the talks, Israel indicated that there are no "major differences" between the Israeli side and Lebanon, and called on Lebanon to "work together" to counter the pro-Iranian Hezbollah; Hezbollah, however, opposes this negotiation and is not participating.

Israel and Lebanon have been in a state of formal hostility for decades. They held their first talks since 1993 in Washington on the 14th of this month, hoping to end the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel that has lasted for over six weeks.

Following the initial talks, the US quickly announced that the Israeli-Lebanese ceasefire agreement took effect at 5 PM EST on April 16 for a duration of 10 days, and is set to expire on the 26th.

According to statistics from Lebanese authorities, since the outbreak of the war, Israeli attacks on Lebanon have resulted in at least 2,454 deaths and displaced 1 million people.

Similar to the last meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio invited Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter and Lebanese Ambassador to the US Nada Hamadeh Moawad to participate together. US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee will also be in attendance.

On another note, CNN reported that the US Embassy in Beirut issued a security alert today, urging US citizens to "leave Lebanon as soon as possible while seats on commercial flights are still available."

The US Embassy stated: "The current security situation is complex and can change rapidly." (Translation: Ji Jin-ling) 1150423
