(CNA, Tehran, 23rd) A senior official from the Iranian parliament stated today that Tehran has received its first batch of revenue from tolls levied on the strategic waterway, the Strait of Hormuz, during the war with the United States and Israel.

According to the Tasnim News Agency, Hamidreza Hajibabaei, the Vice Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, stated, "The first toll revenues collected from the Strait of Hormuz have been deposited into the Central Bank's account." Other Iranian media outlets also carried the statement but provided no further details.

The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy supplies, has become a major flashpoint since the outbreak of the Middle East war on February 28. In peacetime, the shipping lane carries one-fifth of the world's oil and natural gas, as well as other vital commodities, but Iran currently allows only a very small number of ships to pass.

Prior to the announcement of the first toll revenue deposits, the Iranian parliament had been debating whether to levy tolls on ships passing through the strait. Iranian officials warned that shipping conditions in the Strait of Hormuz will "not return to pre-war status."

State media reported that the Iranian parliament's national security committee approved the toll collection plan on March 30, but it remains unclear whether the parliament has conducted a final vote. (Translator: Liu Shu-chin) 1150423
