(CNA Reporter Tsai Chih-ming, Chiayi County, 23rd) The groundbreaking ceremony for "Shanlong Bridge" (Bridge No. 644), assisted by the Chiayi Charitable Group of Chiayi City, was held today. Shanlong Bridge is located in Longde Village, Shuishang Township, Chiayi County, crossing the Jianan Canal North Trunk Line. It will replace the old and dangerous Longde Bridge. The construction cost is over 14 million NTD, and it is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
The groundbreaking ceremony for "Shanlong Bridge" was held today, attended by nearly 100 people including Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang, Chiayi Charitable Group Chairwoman Cheng Hsiu-yu, Shuishang Township Mayor Lin Hsiang-ting, and local figures. Longde Bridge was listed as a dangerous bridge by the county government. The year before last, the Chiayi Charitable Group agreed to assist in its reconstruction, but it was delayed until today due to the impact of typhoons last year.
In a media interview, Weng Chang-liang said that Longde Bridge was originally built as a wooden plank road. In 1986, a bridge was built on the original facilities. After 40 years of use, the bridge facilities have aged and the passing space is insufficient. To solve these problems, a bridge reconstruction project was decided.
Weng stated that the county government is responsible for the design and supervision of the project. After the reconstruction, the bridge deck height will be raised, the flood section will be expanded, the approach roads will be optimized, and traffic safety improvement measures will be added, taking into account both disaster prevention and people's livelihood needs.
Lin Hsiang-ting said that besides Longde villagers, residents from Dakuwei, Luchao, and other places will also use this bridge. The construction cost of the new bridge is 13.58 million NTD borne by the Chiayi Charitable Group, and 870,000 NTD subsidized by the county government. The township office did not pay anything due to financial constraints.
Lin mentioned that she is also a resident of Longde Village. Her late father, Lin Kun-shan, participated in the construction of Longde Bridge 40 years ago while serving as a county councilor. Her father passed away in October last year and couldn't witness this moment in person. Today, she specially wore her father's watch to let him witness the reconstruction process of Longde Bridge with everyone.
Lin pointed out that Longde Bridge was originally scheduled to break ground last year, but due to the impact of Typhoons Danas and Hagibis, the Chiayi Charitable Group prioritized emergency relief work in disaster areas, so the project was delayed until now.
Cheng Hsiu-yu stated that since the Chiayi Charitable Group was established in 1965, it has been over 60 years and has completed 662 bridges, 363 of which are in the Chiayi area. She thanked all sectors for their donation support, which enables the group's four major missions: building bridges, paving roads, providing coffins, and poverty relief, to continue.
