(Central News Agency reporter Cheng Ching-hsuan, Warsaw, 23rd) The European Economic Congress opened in Poland on the 22nd, with the "Poland-Taiwan Economic Cooperation Forum" taking center stage. The event explored cooperation in semiconductor supply chains and affirmed the influential nature of Taiwan's investments in Poland. Liu Yang-chien, Taiwan's Representative to Poland, stated that the resilient partnership established between the two countries will make Poland the key gateway for Taiwan into the European market.

The 18th European Economic Congress (EEC) is being held in Katowice, Poland, and is one of the largest and most important economic and political gatherings in the Central and Eastern European region.

Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister of Poland and Chairman of the EEC Board, stated in the opening ceremony that amid intertwining wars, geopolitical turbulence, and climate crises, Europe has no retreat and must show greater decisiveness in energy transition and technological sovereignty.

The "Poland-Taiwan Economic Cooperation Forum" became the focus of the congress's first day. In his opening remarks, Liu Yang-chien emphasized that despite the vast distance between Taiwan and Poland, they share high similarities: both economies are dominated by flexible and resilient small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and both jointly face the challenges of supply chain restructuring under geopolitical tensions and the AI wave.

Liu further explained that this "resilient partnership," built on democratic values, the rule of law, and trust, will make Poland the critical gateway for Taiwan to enter the European market. He anticipated that over the next two years, they will jointly build a reliable and competitive technological future.

He noted that Taiwan-Europe relations have moved from traditional trade to a new chapter of "technology and innovation," making Poland Taiwan's most crucial partner in Central and Eastern Europe. The Taiwan Trade Center established in Warsaw, along with the upcoming "TEEMA Technology Park" in Poland, will, with full government support, drive bilateral cooperation focused on AI, digital infrastructure, and cybersecurity.

The forum was hosted by Agnieszka Sygitowicz, President of the Polish-Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Victor Abad, Head of Global Network Industry Coverage at ING Bank, pointed out that under the global supply chain transformation, Taiwan's investments in Poland are encountering a historic opportunity.

Bartłomiej Dobosz, co-owner of Poland's SKB Group, Chiu Yuan-yi, Vice Chairman of HCG Group, and Jennifer Lee, representative of Formosa Smart Energy, emphasized that the shared cultural traits of "integrity" and "resilience" between the peoples of both countries are the key to building a "bridge of trust." This transforms Poland from a traditional European contract manufacturer into Taiwan's strategic technological partner.

Additionally, the forum focused on practical technologies. Yang Chien-meng, Chairman of Micro-IP, and Marek Ostafil, CEO of the Polish IoT & AI Industry Cluster, proposed a cooperation model of "hardware as the body, software as the soul." This combines Poland's software talent with Taiwan's semiconductor advantages to jointly promote the commercialization of edge computing and cybersecurity technologies.

Arkadiusz Tarnowski, representative of the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH), stated that both sides have moved beyond the trade stage and entered high-level docking to co-develop "Taiwan-Poland co-branded AI products" and satellite aerospace technologies, creating a high-tech ecosystem with geopolitical resilience.

Forum attendees unanimously look forward to joining hands over the next five years to achieve further growth in Taiwan-Poland economic and trade relations. (Editor: Hsieh Yi-hsuan) 1150423
