The city government presented flags today to encourage the expeditionary force and announced that if they win the championship, an additional 1 million NTD prize will be awarded, with 500,000 NTD for the runner-up and 250,000 NTD for third place.

The FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) is a top-tier international high school robotics event hosted by the US non-profit organization FIRST. It requires teams to build robots weighing up to 54 kilograms within a fixed timeframe and complete specific tasks through alliance cooperation. It is considered the highest arena for robotics competitions, capable of cultivating STEM talent and highly recognized by top universities.

The teams advancing to the World Championship in Houston include Nanshan High School, Ankang High School, Ger-Jyh Senior High School, a joint team from Shulin High School and Yuteh Private School, and Jinhe High School, totaling 5 teams from 6 schools. Mayor Hou Yu-ih presented the flags to the representative teachers and students of the New Taipei teams today. The Ankang High School team demonstrated robot operations, experiencing the integrated application of AI and precision mechanisms.

Tsao Yung-yang, principal of Shulin High School, told a CNA reporter in an interview that the captains of the teams that participated in the FRC international competitions in 2024 and last year gained special admission to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at National Taiwan University and National Central University, respectively. Participating for the third year this year, he hopes they will go all out, show confidence, achieve great results, become role models for their juniors, and win glory for the country.

Kuomintang New Taipei City Councilor Hung Chia-chun attended to cheer on the teachers and students of Shulin High School. She stated in an interview that seeing the younger students dedicating themselves to training and being full of gratitude towards those who helped them is a very important life attitude for competitors, beyond just brilliant results.
