(CNA, Taipei, 22nd) Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with visiting President of Mozambique Daniel Chapo in Beijing yesterday. They unanimously agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a "China-Mozambique Community with a Shared Future in the New Era."
According to the website of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Xi Jinping emphasized during his meeting with Chapo at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the afternoon of the 21st that friendship and mutual trust are the prominent features and political advantages of Sino-Mozambican relations. Both sides should continue to firmly support each other on issues involving core interests and major concerns, closely interact at all levels in fields such as government, political parties, legislatures, and local regions, and strengthen the exchange of governance experiences.
Xi Jinping also stated that the economies of China and Mozambique are highly complementary with broad cooperation prospects. This year marks the beginning of China's "15th Five-Year Plan" (2026-2030). China is willing to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with Mozambique, innovate cooperation models, explore new paths for comprehensive development in infrastructure, energy, and minerals, and actively cultivate new growth points in agriculture, new energy, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence.
Xi Jinping further pointed out that the spillover effects of the wars in the Middle East are affecting African countries. China is willing to work hand in hand with Africa to respond, jointly promote peace, and seek common development. This includes the comprehensive implementation of a zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries with diplomatic relations starting from May 1 this year, further expanding the access of African products to China by upgrading the "Green Channel."
According to China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chapo is the first African head of state to pay a state visit to China this year. He stated that Mozambique highly values its relations with China, "unconditionally adheres to the one-China principle, and supports China in achieving national reunification."
After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of more than 20 cooperation documents in areas such as jointly building the "Belt and Road," implementing the Global Security Initiative, economy and trade, cultural exchanges, medical and health care, and news media. They also issued a joint statement on building a China-Mozambique Community with a Shared Future in the New Era. (Editors: Chou Hui-ying / Chen Kai-yu) 1150422
