(CNA Reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, 22nd) A woman at the TRA Taichung Station this morning allegedly took the risk of jumping into the platform track area to pick up dropped banknotes. Fortunately, no accident occurred. The police stated they will review CCTV footage to identify the individual and penalize her for violating the Railway Act.

A netizen posted a video on the social media platform Threads showing a woman at TRA Taichung Station this morning jumping onto the tracks to pick up what appeared to be cash dropped from the platform, sparking heated discussions among netizens.

The Taiwan Railways Corporation stated in a text release today that at approximately 11:04 AM, a female passenger jumped into the track area of Platform 1 at Taichung Station, allegedly to pick up banknotes dropped on the track surface. Because she lacked the strength to climb back up on her own, surrounding passengers worked together to pull her back up to the platform level. The relevant case is currently being investigated by the police.

The Taiwan Railways Corporation pointed out that according to the Railway Act, pedestrians and vehicles are prohibited from trespassing on railway routes and non-public transit areas within station premises. Violators can be fined between NT$10,000 and NT$50,000. If the act affects railway traffic safety and is deemed a severe offense, heavier penalties apply.

The Taiwan Railways Corporation urged the public that if items drop into the track area, they should ask station staff for assistance and not trespass into operational areas, which affects train operations and endangers personal safety.

The Taichung Branch of the Railway Police Bureau stated that the police will review CCTV footage to determine the individual's movements and identity, and will notify her to appear for an explanation. She will be penalized by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications in accordance with the Railway Act. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150422
