Taitung County Councilor Wang You-li Involved in Corruption Case, Transferred to Prosecutors Office in the Evening

(CNA Reporter Lu Tai-cheng, Taitung County, 22nd) Personnel from the Taitung Investigation Bureau traveled to Green Island via a Coast Guard vessel today to bring back Taitung County Councilor Wang You-li. When asked by the media, she stated that she had been reported for corruption but did not understand the situation. She was transferred to the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for further interrogation in the evening.

The Legislative Yuan passed an amendment to the "Regulations on the Subsidy of Expenses for Local Public Representatives and Village Heads" in June 2024, raising the upper limit of the assistant subsidy for county and city councilors from 80,000 NTD to 160,000 NTD per month. After the new system had been implemented for over a year, Taitung investigative authorities recently received a tip alleging that some councilors might be improperly using assistant funds.

The Taitung County Field Office of the Investigation Bureau took a Coast Guard vessel to Green Island this morning to bring Wang You-li back to Taitung for investigation. When questioned by the media, she replied, "I was reported for corruption, but I don't understand the situation. Everything is fine."

Tonight, the Taitung County Field Office transferred Wang You-li and related personnel to the Taitung District Prosecutors Office for further questioning. The Prosecutors Office stated that the relevant cases are under investigation.
