(CNA Reporter Li Jian-zhong, Nagoya, 22nd) A delegation from the Sports Administration and the National Sports Training Center visited Nagoya today specifically to inspect three off-site hotels they had pre-booked, expecting to provide 91 rooms for athletes to use when needed during the Asian Games.

The 2026 Nagoya Asian Games will open on September 19. The organizing committee for this year's Asian Games did not construct a new athlete village; instead, it is using hotels, cruise ships, and combined container houses to accommodate athletes and delegation headquarters from various countries.

For some sports events that are more remote or located in suburban areas, the organizing committee will arrange for athletes to stay in hotels near the venues to avoid exhaustive travel.

Among them, the container houses will accommodate two people per room and are located by the Nagoya Port. After the Asian Games conclude, they will be repurposed as temporary housing for victims in the event of major emergencies or disasters.

However, out of consideration for the athletes and fearing that living in cruise ships or container houses might pose habituation problems, the Sports Administration specially found three hotels off-site. Hotels A and B are in the same district, providing 20 and 47 rooms respectively. Regardless of the room type, they are planned for single occupancy.

As for Hotel C, it is a newly constructed facility scheduled to open in early June. The Sports Administration has taken a "buy-out" approach, booking all 24 rooms. The hotel features an exclusive restaurant, a sauna room, and social spaces, looking very comfortable overall.

Hong Zhi-chang, Administrative Deputy Minister of the Sports Administration, told the Central News Agency during an interview that the current approach is to secure the hotels first. "Ultimately, we still have to wait for notification from the organizing committee on how many cruise ship rooms and container houses we are allocated, before we have more detailed discussions on how to utilize the hotel rooms."
