(Central News Agency reporter Li Xian-feng, Hualien County, 22nd) The Hualien County Health Bureau held a "Yuli Township De Wu Village Long-Term Care Day Care Service Consultation Briefing" today in Lingya Village, announcing plans to revitalize the abandoned health room at De Wu Elementary School, converting it into a small-scale multi-functional institution that will provide day care services for 23 people and 4 beds for night respite care.

Nearly 200 local residents, including Lingya Village Chief Yang Wen-xiong, Xiade Wu Village Chief Qiu Shui-liang, De Wu Village Chief Yang Min-xiong, De Wu Elementary School Principal Li Zhen-yuan, Yuli Township Health Center Director Cao Yu-wen, councilors, and township representatives, were invited to participate in the consultation briefing. The Health Bureau stated that it will become the first day care center planned within a school campus.

Li Zhen-yuan told the Central News Agency reporter that the health room was located in the school in earlier years but has been abandoned for many years and converted into a mobile medical service. It took more than a year to complete the land division, and the health room will be demolished and rebuilt into a day care center, which has been approved by the tribal council and is expected to start construction by the end of the year.

Li Zhen-yuan said that De Wu Elementary School is a community-based elementary school, and all 18 students are Amis people. Although the day care center is next to the school, the movement paths are separated and will not affect the school's normal activities and teaching at all.

Hualien County Health Bureau Director Zhu Jia-xiang stated that with the increasing elderly population year by year, the demand for long-term care services is also rising. To allow the elderly to live safely in their familiar communities, the first day care center is planned within De Wu Elementary School, transforming the existing health room space into a day care center. In the future, it will provide diverse services such as safe care, communal meals, respite care, activities to delay disability, and social participation, and will combine with the health center's preventive health services to help the elderly with disabilities and dementia receive proper care during the day, while also reducing the burden on family caregivers.

During the briefing, the Health Bureau explained the concept and service model of the center to the local community and fully communicated with the residents. Most participating residents expressed support, believing that establishing a day care center within the village can provide nearby care services, which is not only convenient for the elderly but also helps improve the overall quality of life. They showed high recognition and expectation for the future plan to establish a day care center within De Wu Elementary School.

Hualien County Health Bureau reminds that if there is a need for day care, small-scale multi-functional services, or day care respite services, please contact the Hualien County Long-Term Care Management Center or call the 1966 long-term care service hotline for professional assistance with assessment and matching.
