(CNA Reporter Chang Ya-ching, Penghu, 22nd) The Penghu County Government, in collaboration with Nanshan Life Insurance, launched the nation's first "Group Micro First-Time Cancer Health Insurance" today. The county government will proactively assist low-income earners in enrolling, and those diagnosed with cancer for the first time will receive an insurance payout of NT$50,000, alleviating the burden on economically disadvantaged groups.

Penghu County Deputy Magistrate Lin Chieh-hsing and Nanshan Life Insurance Vice President Lai Yu-cheng jointly announced the nation's first "Group Micro First-Time Cancer Health Insurance" at the Penghu County Government today, effective from May this year. Lin Chieh-hsing presented certificates of appreciation to Lai Yu-cheng and Huang Sheng-yung, a board member of the Nanshan Life Charity Foundation.

Lin Chieh-hsing stated that Nanshan Life Insurance has been taking long-term care of disadvantaged citizens since 2017, successively launching accidental injury insurance and fire inconvenience insurance. This time, they are introducing the "Group Micro First-Time Cancer Health Insurance" to further upgrade the protection for economically disadvantaged groups. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Penghu County Government.

Lai Yu-cheng noted that Nanshan Life Insurance has long cooperated with over 200 medical institutions domestically, including 3 hospitals in Penghu. During their service, they discovered that some economically disadvantaged individuals were in arrears with health insurance premiums and medical expenses. If they unfortunately contracted a severe illness, the interruption of their income source would be a major blow to their psychological and physical health. Therefore, they have successively introduced insurance such as accidental injury for disadvantaged individuals, and this time they are launching the first-time cancer health insurance, hoping to lessen the burden on disadvantaged families.

The Penghu County Government Social Affairs Department stated that the premium for the "Group Micro First-Time Cancer Health Insurance" is fully borne by the Nanshan Life Charity Foundation. Currently, there are about 900 registered low-income households in Penghu. The insurance primarily targets individuals aged 15 to 75, initially estimated at over 600 people. Registered low-income earners who are diagnosed with cancer for the first time can receive a payout of NT$50,000. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150422
