(CNA Reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, 22nd) Media reports claimed that Taichung City Police Department Sixth Precinct Chief Chou Chun-ming, who was disciplined and removed from his post for accidentally discharging pepper spray, was promoted. The National Police Agency (NPA) stated today that the Ministry of Interior has approved Chou's lateral transfer to the Taipei City Police Department as a three-line, one-star Police Supervisor, which is a non-supervisory position.

The NPA issued a press release at noon clarifying that news reports alleging Chou Chun-ming was promoted to a three-line, two-star Police Supervisor in the Taipei City Police Department are untrue.

The NPA explained that the Ministry of Interior approved Chou's reassignment yesterday to serve as a fourth-tier Police Supervisor in the Taipei City Police Department. The rank assigned to this position is three-line, one-star, which is a lateral transfer and a non-supervisory role.

Taiwan People's Party (TPP) founding chairman Ko Wen-je accompanied TPP Taichung City Councilor candidate Liu Chin-yu on a street sweep at the Fengjia Night Market on the evening of the 17th. During the event, they were sprayed with pepper spray. Liu Chin-yu went to the Sixth Precinct to file assault charges on the morning of the 18th. Police investigation revealed that Sixth Precinct Chief Chou Chun-ming accidentally discharged the spray during security operations. Consequently, Chou was removed from his post and given a demerit.
