(CNA Reporter Chang Hsiung-feng, Taipei, 22nd) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) stated today that tomorrow afternoon until the evening of the 25th will be the period with the most significant rainfall in the coming week. Tomorrow, there may be localized heavy or torrential rain in the north, and the rain area will expand from north to south. On the 24th, the western half of the island must be on guard against heavy rain. Rainfall will decrease slightly on the 25th, but central and southern Taiwan should still be mindful of heavier showers.

CWA forecaster Huang En-hong told CNA reporters that as a front gradually passes and the northeast monsoon strengthens tomorrow and on the 24th, there will be obvious rainfall in the north and northeast after noon tomorrow. Short, brief showers or thunderstorms will be likely, and people should be aware of short-duration heavy or torrential rain. On the 24th, the rain area will expand to the entire western half of the country, with possible localized heavy rain.

Huang stated that on the 25th, due to the northeast monsoon and the eastward movement of a cloud and rain band from South China, rainfall will primarily consist of brief showers or thunderstorms with heavier bursts in central and southern Taiwan, while other areas will see localized brief showers. It is estimated that rainfall across the country will gradually ease by the evening of the 25th. On the 26th and 27th, the northeast monsoon will weaken and moisture will decrease, leading to stable weather everywhere, with only sporadic brief showers in the central and southern mountainous areas in the afternoons.

Huang pointed out that moisture in the eastern half will increase on the 28th, making localized brief showers likely. Another front will approach on the 29th, bringing localized brief showers to the north, eastern half, and central mountainous areas. Other areas will be cloudy with localized brief showers in the afternoon.

Regarding temperatures, Huang said that starting tomorrow, temperatures in the north and Yilan will drop slightly. It is estimated to be cool on the 24th and 25th, with daytime highs of about 22 to 24 degrees Celsius in the north, Yilan, and Hualien; 25 to 26 degrees in the center; and 27 to 30 degrees in the south. Low temperatures will drop gradually day by day. The early morning of the 26th is estimated to be the coolest, with the north, Yilan, and Hualien at about 18 to 20 degrees, and the center, south, and Taitung at about 20 to 22 degrees.

Huang mentioned that daytime highs in the north, Yilan, and Hualien will rebound to 28 or 29 degrees on the 26th. It is estimated that highs across the country will reach 30 degrees or more starting from the 27th. Only when another front moves south on the 29th will temperatures drop slightly due to rainfall.

Huang reminded the public that Matsu is prone to low clouds or localized fog early tomorrow morning, affecting visibility. Taitung may experience Foehn winds. Additionally, coastal areas from Tainan northward, the southeast, and the Hengchun Peninsula should watch out for strong gusts of level 8 or above. (Editor: Lee Heng-shan) 1150422
