New Taipei City to offer 2 hours free parking for taxis at 120 public parking lots starting June

(Central News Agency reporter Huang Hsu-Sheng, New Taipei, 22nd) In response to high summer temperatures and recent oil price increases, the New Taipei City Government announced that starting in June, approximately 120 public parking lots will be opened to provide taxis with 2 hours of free parking daily from 11 AM to 1 PM, allowing drivers to eat and rest.

Director of Transportation Zhong Ming-Shi presented a special report on transportation construction at today's city council meeting; he stated that transportation development must be data-driven and balance economic development with care for vulnerable groups. With the Second Administrative Building scheduled to open at the end of this year, the Smart Transportation Center will introduce big data applications to enhance the timeliness and precision of traffic management.

Mayor Hou Yu-Ih requested Zhong Ming-Shi to ensure that supporting measures such as pedestrian systems, bus transfers, YouBike (public bicycle) installations, pick-up/drop-off areas, and parking spaces are not relaxed, in conjunction with the scheduled opening of the Danjiang Bridge in May and the goal of opening the New Taipei Metro Sanxia Line in June, to ensure smooth traffic connections.

In addition, to show appreciation for the hard work of taxi drivers, Hou Yu-Ih said that in response to high summer temperatures and rising oil prices, starting in June, approximately 120 public parking lots will be opened to provide taxis with 2 hours of free parking daily from 11 AM to 1 PM, serving as a space for drivers to eat and rest. He hopes to express gratitude to transportation service providers for their assistance to New Taipei citizens and the city government through this caring feedback.

The New Taipei City Department of Transportation also stated that the New Taipei Ankeng Taxi Driver Service Center will be inaugurated on the 23rd at the space under the bridge at the intersection of Ankang Road Section 1 and An-Yi Road Section 1 in Xindian District.
