South Korean President Lee Jae-myung is currently visiting Vietnam. Today, he met with To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and State President, and signed 12 MOUs, including ones in the nuclear power sector. Lee stated that as geopolitical uncertainty rises, South Korea and Vietnam should join hands towards a future of shared prosperity.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Jae-myung met with To Lam today. Lee remarked that since establishing diplomatic ties in 1992, the two countries have built an optimal partnership across various fields, with approximately 5 million people traveling between them annually, and exchanges continuing to expand.

Lee noted that as geopolitical uncertainty reaches unprecedented levels and global tech hegemony competition intensifies, the two nations 'should transform the quantitative results accumulated through the joint efforts of people, enterprises, and governments into qualitative growth, working together towards a future of sustainable co-prosperity.'

Lee also pointed out that 'the two countries are top-3 trading partners, and more than 10,000 South Korean enterprises have established a presence in Vietnam, contributing to the economic growth of both nations.' To Lam stated that Vietnam has always valued its relationship with South Korea as it promotes a multilateral foreign policy and pursues comprehensive international peace, and hopes to further strengthen strategic trust and expand practical cooperation.

South Korea and Vietnam signed 12 Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) today, including a 'MOU for Feasibility Review of Nuclear Power Development Cooperation' signed between Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PVN). They will jointly promote plans for new nuclear power plants and perform joint risk analysis for construction.

There was also a 'Power Infrastructure Cooperation MOU.' The Blue House stated that through this MOU, Vietnam can lay the foundation for expanding renewable energy and help South Korean companies enter the local market. Other cooperation areas include Artificial Intelligence (AI), technological innovation, intellectual property, medical product development, flood and drought management, animal health and quarantine, culture, and security.
