(CNA Reporter Lee Hui-ting, Pingtung County, 22nd) The High-Speed Rail extension to Pingtung is driving industrial upgrades. Ten manufacturers are planning to build factories in the Pingtung Science Park within the specific zone, and the semiconductor supply chain zone coordinated by TSMC is expected to break ground in June. Hsu Nai-wen, CEO of the Southern Taiwan Joint Services Center, stated that through integrated construction, Pingtung will become a new starting point for layout in Southern Taiwan.

The High-Speed Rail Pingtung Specific Zone covers a total area of 307.15 hectares. Besides the HSR Pingtung Station, the overall construction includes the Pingtung Science Park, the expansion of the Pingtung Technology Industrial Park, a sports and leisure park, and the Pingtung Science Experimental High School. Today, the Executive Yuan's Southern Taiwan Joint Services Center, together with the Pingtung County Government, the National Science and Technology Council's Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau, the Bureau of Industrial Parks, and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Railway Bureau, held a press conference on the 'HSR Pingtung Station Specific Zone' to explain the progress of construction and investment attraction.

Hsu Nai-wen, CEO of the Southern Services Center, said in a media interview that the HSR Pingtung Specific Zone brings together the semiconductor supply chain, dual-rail transportation, and talent cultivation, making it an important node for regional development. By integrating the HSR Pingtung Station and surrounding constructions, the overall regional industrial development will be perfected, making Pingtung a new starting point for layout in Southern Taiwan. The central government will continue to coordinate cross-ministerial resources to accelerate the advancement of various constructions.

Chiang Kuo-feng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Pingtung County Government, stated that the HSR extension to Pingtung is not just a step towards transportation equity for Pingtung residents, but also a key milestone for regional transformation. In response to the development and construction, the county government is promoting 6 planned roads within the specific zone and 2 external connection roads. Construction has already begun separately, with completions expected successively after July this year.

The NSTC Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau mentioned at the meeting that the Pingtung Science Park is expected to create 5,400 jobs and an annual production value of NT$36 billion. Ten companies have already scheduled to build factories. Currently, Yuchen Materials completed its topping-out ceremony late last year, and Hopax Chemicals broke ground in March this year. The park features a 25.5-hectare semiconductor supply chain zone coordinated by TSMC, which will introduce semiconductor-related supply chain manufacturers. A joint groundbreaking ceremony is expected in June this year.

In addition, the Pingtung Science Experimental High School began enrollment in 2024. The new school buildings are being constructed in two phases, with the first phase expected to open this year.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs' Bureau of Industrial Parks stated that the expansion of the Pingtung Technology Industrial Park targets strategic industries such as precision electronics, plastic products, metal processing, and mechanical equipment. It is estimated to drive about NT$5 billion in investment, create an annual production value of NT$10 billion, and provide 790 jobs.

Regarding transportation construction, the Railway Bureau stated that the HSR extension to Pingtung project is currently undergoing a Phase II environmental impact assessment, while comprehensive planning advances simultaneously. Once completed, it will connect with the new TRA Liukuaicuo Station, integrating into the HSR one-day living circle and driving regional development.

The Pingtung County Government mentioned that the Pingtung International Baseball Stadium will be Taiwan's first international-grade baseball stadium adjacent to an HSR station. Designed with 15,000 seats, it is expected to be completed by the end of next year. (Editor: Hsieh Ya-chu) 1150422
