The Greek government today announced a package of special grants for senior citizens and families with children, along with an extension of fuel subsidies for farmers, to assist citizens in coping with the increasingly severe cost-of-living crisis.

Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported that the announcement of this multi-million dollar subsidy plan comes as the Greek Parliament votes on whether to revoke the immunity of 13 MPs. These MPs are facing prosecution over an alleged European Union (EU) subsidy fraud scandal.

Greece's annual inflation rate climbed to 3.9% in March, driven by rising energy prices linked to the conflict in the Middle East.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, while announcing these measures, noted: 'The volatile international situation has intensified the already heavy cost-of-living burden on households.'

Mitsotakis stated that the government will issue a 'special' grant in June, with each child receiving €150 (approximately 5,500 TWD). Nearly one million families are expected to benefit from this initiative.

Furthermore, Mitsotakis announced that for retirees receiving low pensions and for people with disabilities, the annual subsidy will be increased to €300.

Regarding agricultural support, the Prime Minister announced the extension of the farmer diesel subsidy, which has been in place since March, at a rate of 20 cents per liter. He also confirmed the continuation of a 15% price subsidy for fertilizers.
