CTBC Financial Holding today announced a partnership with the TSMC Charity Foundation and Wood-Vinegar Garden, a leader in Taiwan's forest circular economy, to create the 'Sustainable Trust for Campus Tree Governance.' This initiative upgrades campus tree risk management into 'natural capital preservation' and 'sustainable circular economy' governance, creating Asia's first demonstration case for such a trust.

CTBC noted that trees are natural 'carbon stores.' The United Nations has long advocated for forest conservation to mitigate climate change. TSMC, deeply committed to environmental sustainability, has a landmark 'Tree Planting and Legacy Program' that converts tree planting into substantial carbon credits. Campus trees, acting as urban carbon stores, play roles as micro 'ecological green islands' and 'climate regulators.' This year, the TSMC Charity Foundation has taken a key role in driving this sustainable trust.

Peng Kuan-yu, CEO of the TSMC Charity Foundation, stated that TSMC's Public Facilities Service Department has long invested in environmental sustainability. By working with Wood-Vinegar Garden, they convert wood waste—which was previously incinerated—into high-value products like natural hand soaps. This trust combines enterprises, professional teams, and financial institutions to replicate TSMC's practical experience in schools, contributing to safety and environmental education. Through CTBC Bank's sustainable trust model, governance becomes credible and institutionalized, starting in Hsinchu County with plans to expand across Taiwan.

CTBC stated that natural capital trust management can preserve and sustainably use natural assets. Through this platform, they aim to strengthen resilience against extreme weather and protect biodiversity. The trust ensures transparent funding and introduces professional verification to create a replicable, quantifiable model.

CTBC Bank General Manager Yang Ming-hsiang emphasized that the core value of a trust is to bring risks into a structured system. Beyond being a fund channel, the bank acts as a financial platform for the long-term preservation and value realization of natural capital.

Wood-Vinegar Garden, which executes the tree maintenance, has assembled a team of ecologists and arborists. They have begun inventorying risks and pruning trees in Hsinchu's public primary schools, converting waste wood into biochar and wood vinegar, which are then made into cleaning products for the schools.

This first-in-Asia trust starts at Fuxing Elementary School in Hsinchu County, with plans to expand to over 120 public schools, potentially reducing carbon by over 2,000 tons annually—equivalent to the carbon sequestration of five Da'an Forest Parks.
