(Central News Agency) The inaugural Wei Ming-kuang Journalism Awards ceremony was held today at the National Chengchi University Public Enterprise Center. The awards are divided into the 'Advocacy Award' and the 'Exploration Award,' and 'CommonWealth Magazine' was selected for both, emerging as the biggest winner.

The Wei Ming-kuang Journalism Award is an emerging honor in Taiwan's journalism industry. This year, it attracted many authoritative media outlets and independent journalists. CommonWealth Magazine won the 'Advocacy Award' for its project 'Deconstructing the Polarized Confrontation Model of Social Bot Operations' and the 'Exploration Award' for its 'International Waste Investigation.' It was the only media outlet to receive recognition in two categories.

Li Tsai-yen, President of NCCU and convener of the Wei Ming-kuang Excellence Development Fund Committee, stated in his speech that in a digital age where ratings are supreme and information is fragmented and hard to verify, the value of high-quality news is even more precious.

Su Heng, convener of the Wei Ming-kuang Journalism Award Committee, noted that the award differs from traditional ones by emphasizing a future-oriented approach. It encourages the industry to seek coexistence and innovation amidst the waves of big data and AI, while contemplating new models for sustainable media operation.

Other winners included the Taiwan Media Watch Education Foundation for promoting cross-media self-regulation and United Daily News for its 'KTA Dementia Advocacy Project,' which integrates AI and knowledge transformation. In the 'Exploration Award' category, SET News was recognized for its coverage of conflict zones in Syria and Ukraine, and independent journalists were honored for their plans to train reporters for conflict areas. CommonWealth's waste investigation revealed environmental injustices through transnational field research and data comparison, continuing to promote public value.
