(CNA Reporter Yu Hsiao-han, Taipei, 22nd) The Baishatun Mazu pilgrimage attracted 460,000 registered participants this year. The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) stated today that the transportation volume reached 321,000 passenger trips this year, a growth of 11.14% compared to last year. Both TRA's Baishatun Station and THSR's Miaoli Station set historic high records.

The Mazu of Gongtian Temple in Baishatun, Tongxiao, Miaoli recently went on foot to Chaotian Temple in Beigang for a pilgrimage. This year, it attracted over 460,000 "incense lamp feet" (pilgrims) to register and participate.

The MOTC held a "Baishatun Pilgrimage Transportation Achievements" press conference today. During the conference, Deputy Minister of MOTC Chen Yen-po pointed out that this year's transportation adopted a 3-tier integrated backup strategy of "Taiwan Railways as the core, highway buses as auxiliary, and High-Speed Rail in coordination." The overall passenger volume reached 321,000, an 11.14% increase from last year's 290,000.

Deputy Minister Wu Sheng-yuan stated that TRA transported nearly 230,000 passengers this year, a 17.24% increase from 194,000 last year. On the departure day, April 12, the daily entries and exits at Baishatun Station reached nearly 98,000, an increase of 48.19% compared to last year, hitting a record high.

Wu mentioned that for the High-Speed Rail, 73,000 passengers were transported this year. Although it did not break last year's volume, the entries and exits at Miaoli Station reached 17,000 on the departure day, growing by 36.61% compared to last year, marking the highest single-day record since the station opened.

Chen Yen-po added that highway buses operated 620 trips, transporting 20,000 passengers. Transport capacity increased by 27% compared to last year, and the number of passengers grew by 31.19%. This year, waiting spaces were optimized and barrier-free vehicles were introduced, enhancing overall service quality.

Chen stated that relevant transportation measures will continue to be planned during the Mazu pilgrimage next year, and public feedback will be reviewed individually to ensure next year's transportation better meets the needs of the people. (Editor: Li Heng-shan) 1150422
