Zhonghe's first canopy basketball court opens, dual-use for rain or shine, enhanced night lighting

Located in Park No. 4, the first canopy basketball court in Zhonghe, New Taipei City, officially opened today. The canopy uses membrane material and a single-slope design to block UV rays and reduce high temperatures from the western sun, while newly installed lights enhance night visibility, freeing players from weather constraints. The August 23 Memorial Park (also known as Park No. 4) is the largest park in the Zhonghe-Yonghe area and a popular spot for exercise. Due to high usage, the original court suffered from cracks and uneven surfaces. The district office initiated an improvement project, holding a completion ceremony today with local players. Zhonghe District Executive Yang Yi-lin stated that the local basketball population is about 29,000. To create an all-weather sports space, they secured over NT$25 million for the renovation, which started last June and finished in February. The single-slope design slanted northwest reduces heat and leaf accumulation, using a self-cleaning membrane. The court features a blue-yellow contrast color scheme, improved drainage, repainted surrounding seats, new pavements, updated fencing, and enhanced ground foundations. Legislator Chang Chih-lun and several local councilors praised the cross-party effort, expressing hope for more such facilities in the future so citizens can enjoy comfortable sporting environments.
