(CNA, Washington, 21st, Comprehensive Foreign Dispatch) US President Trump stated today that the United States is in a favorable position in its negotiations with Iran; meanwhile, the US delegation is set to begin a second round of talks with Iran in Pakistan.

According to an AFP report, Trump said in an interview with financial media CNBC: "We will eventually reach a great deal. I think they have no choice... We are in a very, very strong negotiating position."

The US delegation, led by Vice President JD Vance, is expected to depart later from Washington for Pakistan's capital, Islamabad. The US and Iran had already started their first round of negotiations in Islamabad earlier this month, but failed to reach a consensus on ending the war.

Trump demands that Iran hand over its stockpile of enriched uranium and cease its attempts to control the strategically significant Strait of Hormuz. This waterway carries about one-fifth of the world's global oil trade.

Despite days of bombing by the US and Israel before a brief ceasefire, Tehran has so far refused to accept these conditions.

According to the White House, the ceasefire agreement, which took effect on April 8, will expire on the evening of the 22nd, Eastern Standard Time.

Trump posted on social media that if Iran releases eight women he said are facing execution, it would help improve the chances of successful peace talks between Iran and the United States.

During the interview, Trump did not explicitly state whether the ceasefire agreement would be extended if the negotiations fail to make progress.

He said: "If a deal is reached, Iran will be able to put itself in a very favorable position." (Translation: Liu Wenyu) 1150422
