Taipei, April 21 (CNA) - Taiwan Cement (TCC) announced that it will hold an 80th-anniversary exhibition on May 3, where it will unveil for the first time in Taiwan a fully implemented 'AI autonomous electric mining truck' system in a mining area. A fleet of 12 vehicles, through a power revolution of 'substituting electricity for oil,' is expected to reduce annual carbon emissions by 848 tons and cut power costs by 78%, showcasing its low-carbon transformation achievements and promoting its 'urban mining' philosophy.
TCC stated in a press release today that it will hold an immersive exhibition titled 'TCC's 80-Year Journey: Building a Dream Civilization' at the Huashan 1914 Creative Park. In addition to unveiling the AI autonomous electric mining trucks, it will also release its latest low-carbon building materials for 2026 and display TCC's innovative energy solutions for participating in the European electricity trading market, integrating green energy and Virtual Power Plants (VPP) through a charging-storage integrated model.
TCC pointed out that the core philosophy supporting these low-carbon products and energy solutions is the 'urban mining' promoted by TCC, which involves reusing waste generated by society and industry and converting it into usable resources.
In practical application, TCC will for the first time present a case of introducing alternative fuels in Cameroon, West Africa, using local waste cocoa husks to replace coal as biofuel. It will also simultaneously display a low-carbon process centered on 'calcined clay' as a raw material, which is less common in Taiwan.
TCC stated that it started from taking over four cement plants during the Japanese colonial period. After privatization in 1954, it participated in the construction history of projects from National Freeway No. 1 and the Shimen Dam to Taipei 101. It has now developed into an international enterprise with a presence in Asia, Europe, and Africa, covering 20 major markets. This special exhibition will also present how TCC is creating new business models and competitive advantages in the era of carbon pricing through technology, sustainability, and energy innovation.
