Xu Yu-wei is an alumnus of Taichung Special Education School, suffering from Down Syndrome accompanied by multiple disabilities including intellectual, visual, and speech impairments. Chen Weiqi, Director of Counseling at Taichung Special Education School, told CNA that during his school years, Xu Yu-wei honed his musical instrument skills and prepared for two years. Before graduation, he obtained a street performer license, becoming the first student from Taichung Special Education School to do so.

Chen Weiqi pointed out that Xu Yu-wei studied diligently and began performing on the streets during his school years. After graduation, he pursued street performing as a profession, practicing for 3 hours daily at home. He performed to the best of his ability in every show, even playing with full effort when it rained. Over more than 10 years as a street artist, he has been self-sufficient.

Chen Weiqi added that over the past decade, more than 50 junior students from Taichung Special Education School have followed in Xu Yu-wei's footsteps to become street performers, performing in various cities and counties including Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Penghu. Xu Yu-wei will return to his alma mater on April 23rd to share his life story and will donate the NT$50,000 saved from his years of street performing to the school, hoping to help more junior students embark on their dream journeys.
