Police Admit Fault: Faulty Car Receives Speeding Ticket While Being Towed

A citizen's vehicle being transported by a tow truck along Miaoli County's Road 140 received a speeding ticket, sparking disbelief. The Miaoli County Police Bureau stated today that the tow truck was the one speeding, and due to an error where the towed car's license plate was entered into the system, the ticket has been retracted and an apology issued to the owner.

According to a social media post, a ticket issued on March 6 identified a private car for speeding—recording 73 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The netizen questioned, 'How can a car being towed speed?'

Lin Hong-ming, deputy captain of the Traffic Division of the Miaoli County Police Bureau, pointed out that officers verified the post and confirmed that a tow truck was carrying a faulty vehicle through an average speed measurement section. During the backend review, an officer mistakenly entered the plate of the towed vehicle rather than the tow truck. Police explained that the computer system likely captured the more prominent colored vehicle on top, and the reviewing officer failed to catch the error. The ticket has been cancelled, re-issued to the correct vehicle, and an apology was sent to the car owner.
