(Central News Agency reporter Guo Fangjun, Zurich, 21st) The new government led by Peter Magyar, who won the Hungarian parliamentary election, has noticed that a company registered in Switzerland by the defeated Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his cronies is not an ordinary enterprise, but rather a Hungarian energy supply system holding company. The new government will launch an in-depth investigation into their structure of official-business collusion.
According to a report by the Swiss media "Tages-Anzeiger," Hungarian oligarch Lőrinc Mészáros is one of the richest entrepreneurs in the country, with his business empire extending to Zug Canton, Switzerland. His family operates through a company named MS Energy Holding AG.
The report points out that the company's address is located in a law firm in Zug Canton, functioning at best as a "mailbox company," controlled by Mészáros's children, who are also members of its board of directors. This Swiss holding company owns and controls Hungary's OPUS TIGÁZ natural gas network company, indirectly controlling tens of thousands of kilometers of natural gas pipeline systems in northeastern Hungary from Switzerland.
Mészáros was originally just a heating installer from Orban's hometown, a childhood friend of Orban, and rose rapidly during Orban's tenure. He now owns a vast business network spanning banking, energy, media, construction, and tourism, making him an oligarch with billions of dollars in assets.
Mészáros once frankly told the media that his success came from "God, luck, and Orban." For a long time, it has been widely suspected that he played the role of a frontman in Orban's political system, accumulating wealth through government contracts and EU subsidies, and using a holding company established in Switzerland to increase the flexibility and concealment of capital operations, reducing external oversight and transparency.
The report states that the election slogan "Handcuffs and Iron Bars" chanted by the new Magyar government is a warning to Orban and his cronies, indicating that illegal activities abroad will be pursued, potentially leading to judicial proceedings, arrest, or prosecution.
