(Taipei, April 21, CNA reporter Chao Min-ya) To revitalize Zhongxing New Village and implement cultural heritage preservation, the National Development Council announced today that Zhongxing Hall, known as the 'Little White House,' has completed its restoration after more than six years, including a reuse plan, planning and design, and restoration engineering, with an investment of over NT$100 million. The project not only strengthened the building's seismic resilience but also incorporated night architectural lighting design, allowing it to transform magnificently with a new look.

The National Development Council stated in a press release that Zhongxing Hall was built in 1957 and served for a long time as an important venue for provincial government meetings and receiving heads of state and foreign guests. Its architectural appearance is known for its elegant white color and symmetrical design, with one theory suggesting its design concept originated from the shape of a fighter jet. It is one of the representative landmarks of Zhongxing New Village and was registered as a historical building by the Nantou County Government in 2011.

The National Development Council stated that the 'Little White House' experienced the 921 earthquake and is nearly 70 years old, with aging buildings and facilities, water leakage, and insufficient seismic strength. After taking over, the National Development Council actively sought budget for detailed seismic evaluation, and then proceeded with restoration and reuse plans, planning and design, and other operations in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. The restoration project of Zhongxing Hall officially commenced on December 30, 2024.

The National Development Council explained that from the initiation of detailed seismic evaluation, restoration and reuse plans, planning and design, to the restoration project, it took more than six years and an investment of over NT$100 million. The main construction items included overall renovation, seismic strengthening of the building, and improvement of usability, with a special emphasis on night lighting design to highlight the beauty of its geometric lines through warm light and shadow, making it a new highlight for night tourism in Zhongxing New Village.

The National Development Council emphasized that the completion of the 'Little White House' restoration symbolizes a new milestone in the revitalization of Zhongxing New Village. In the future, it will be combined with the surrounding Youth Activity Center, connecting Zhongxing Grand Sports Ground, Guanghua Children's Park, and the Third Market, introducing diverse functions such as conferences, exhibitions, youth entrepreneurship showcases, and cultural and artistic activities, and integrating local resources to form a cultural industry corridor, making Zhongxing New Village not only a microcosm of history but also transforming it into a cultural industry base that combines historical culture and leisure industries.
