(Central News Agency reporter Xiao Boyang, Nantou County, 21st) The Puli Township Office's sanitation team in Nantou had three forklifts that frequently broke down, affecting operational efficiency. Today, Puli Hengji Temple donated two forklifts to the sanitation team, improving the speed of waste sorting and disposal. The manufacturer also gifted two hand-push sweepers to Hengji Temple and the township office, making street cleaning more convenient.

The Puli Township Office's sanitation team's forklifts were old and frequently malfunctioned, struggling to cope with the increasingly heavy recycling workload. Puli Hengji Temple donated two forklifts totaling nearly NT$1.1 million, and the donation ceremony was held today. Puli Township Mayor Liao Zhicheng stated that Baohu Temple Tiantang Dimu Temple donated a large grab-type recycling truck worth NT$5.5 million last year, and this year Puli Hengji Temple donated forklifts. He expressed gratitude to the local religious groups for their continuous support in enhancing the capacity to handle large waste and recyclables.

Liu Zhixiao, Chairman of Hengji Temple, said that the sanitation team is responsible for the entire township's garbage collection and recycling, and the team members work very hard. In addition, the sanitation team's site is small, lacking good equipment to quickly complete disposal work, leading to a large accumulation of recyclables and causing environmental hygiene problems. After a resolution by the Hengji Temple board of directors and supervisors, it was decided to donate forklifts for the sanitation team's use, which will help with the disposal of garbage and recyclables.

The Puli Township Office stated that in recent years, the market price for recyclables has declined, leading to a large influx of recyclables into the township office's sanitation team. To make matters worse, the sanitation team's forklifts have been in use for many years and frequently break down, slowing down sorting and disposal speeds, causing severe accumulation of recyclables, and affecting the sanitation team's office space and environmental hygiene. The newly donated forklifts are fully functional and can significantly save transportation time and manpower.

The Puli Township Office stated that the sanitation team collects an average of 50 to 55 metric tons of garbage daily. To promote waste reduction, they call on the public to improve the quantity and rate of resource recycling through meticulous sorting. Last year, they implemented a 'Recycling Safety Day' every Monday, where residents can individually box or package fragile or sharp items such as waste glass bottles, light tubes, light bulbs, and small appliances, and hand them over to the recycling truck on Mondays.
