(Taipei, April 21, Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Chun-lin) A 64-year-old man surnamed Li attempted to break into the Presidential Office with a knife in March, and was suppressed and arrested by police and military police working together. As Li's mental state was unstable, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office applied to the court for temporary placement, which was approved. Today, Li was indicted on suspicion of violating the Criminal Code for intimidation and public intimidation, among other charges.

The Taipei District Prosecutors Office stated in its indictment that around 2:50 AM on March 9 this year, Li, carrying a fruit knife, walked into the square in front of the Presidential Office and stated, "I want to kill Lai Ching-te, who is disguised as a Chinese Communist Party member." After military police discovered him, they immediately notified the police. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and, together with the military police, subdued and arrested Li.

The incident caused no casualties. The police seized one fruit knife at the scene. Investigations revealed that Li took a taxi from Keelung to the Presidential Office to express his opinions, but no relevant petition records were found. After an initial inquiry, the police transferred Li to the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on suspicion of public intimidation.

After questioning Li, prosecutors found his mental state to be unstable and applied to the Taipei District Court for a 6-month temporary placement, which was granted. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office concluded the investigation today and indicted Li on suspicion of violating the Criminal Code for threatening safety and public intimidation. The seized fruit knife was ordered confiscated. (Edited by: Chang Ming-kun) 1150421
