(CNA Reporter Yang Yao-ju, Taipei, 21st) A delegation led by Didier Mandelli, First Vice President of the French Senate, visited Taiwan. When hosting them, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung expressed gratitude for France's attention to peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region, emphasizing that Taiwan has a complete semiconductor and AI supply chain and can act as an indispensable partner to France.

Lin Chia-lung posted on Facebook that he hosted the visiting delegation led by French Senate First Vice President Didier Mandelli at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 20th. During the meeting, he thanked French President Emmanuel Macron and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi for their joint statement issued in early April, which reiterated the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Lin mentioned that France's "Military Programming Law" points out that "as an Indo-Pacific power, France will continue to defend the freedom of navigation in the Taiwan Strait," demonstrating France's high regard for security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. France has multiple overseas territories in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, with about 1.6 million citizens living there. Tahiti, a popular resort in the Pacific, is part of French Polynesia.

Lin recounted that a delegation member, Senator Thani Mohamed Soilihi, mentioned his constituency, Mayotte, is located in the Indian Ocean, near the French overseas department of Réunion. It is only a 2-hour flight from Mayotte to Kenya, a major East African country. Furthermore, about half of the countries in Africa use French, highlighting France's significant influence in the Indo-Pacific and Africa.

Lin Chia-lung emphasized that Taiwan highly values cooperation with France in artificial intelligence, aerospace, energy, and culture. Especially as the EU launches the "AI Continent Action Plan" and further plans to establish an AI Gigafactory, Taiwan possesses a complete semiconductor and AI supply chain. He believes Taiwan will become an indispensable partner for France on its path to pursuing "strategic autonomy" and "reindustrialization."

Lin explained that the arrival of the French Senate delegation demonstrates France's emphasis on and support for Taiwan. He looks forward to deepening mutual understanding between Taiwan and France through this visit. (Editor: Chang Jo-yao) 1150421
