(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chun-hua, Taipei, 21st) Regarding legislators' concerns about health checkups for Lanyu residents, Premier Cho Jung-tai stated today that the plan was reported to the Executive Yuan last week. He said that a budget of NT$91.21 million would be allocated for approximately 5,300 Lanyu residents and related personnel, following the model of health checkups for indigenous people in remote islands, and "will be approved immediately."

The Legislative Yuan today invited the Premier, Director-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, and Minister of Finance to report on the compilation process of the "115th Fiscal Year Central Government General Budget Bill" and to answer interpellations.

Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chen Ying pointed out during interpellation that without fully informing Lanyu residents, about 100,000 barrels of nuclear waste were transported to Lanyu for storage in 1982, causing profound and continuous impacts on the health, culture, and living environment of the Tao people, affecting their traditional way of life and ecological environment on the island. The related damage has not yet been completely eliminated.

Chen Ying explained that based on historical justice and the guarantee of health rights, the government should establish more comprehensive配套 and long-term support measures for the medical and health care of Lanyu residents. In May last year, she proposed promoting "Lanyu Residents' Health Checkups" and building a Lanyu Hospital to strengthen medical resources and the health protection system.

Chen Ying stated that the government only approved health checkups for Lanyu residents in 2018, which was 8 years ago. Last year, the Ministry of Economic Affairs proposed the "Lanyu Residents' Health Checkup Plan," which will be implemented by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and funded by the Nuclear Power Post-Operation Fund, with a total budget of approximately NT$91.21 million. It has now completed the review by the National Development Council and is awaiting approval from the Executive Yuan.

Cho Jung-tai responded that the plan was reported to the Executive Yuan last week and that a budget of NT$91.21 million would be allocated for approximately 5,300 Lanyu residents and related personnel, following the model of health checkups for indigenous people in remote islands, and "will be approved immediately."

In addition, regarding the construction of Lanyu Hospital, Chen Ying mentioned that the relevant plan was submitted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in October last year and is under review by the National Development Council. The scale is for multi-specialty medical services and basic beds, with a total budget of over NT$700 million. The land issue is currently being actively coordinated by the Lanyu Township Office.

Cho Jung-tai emphasized that they will jointly solve the land acquisition problem. Once the land issue is resolved, "if the relevant development project proceeds smoothly, the budget is expected to be included in the 116th fiscal year." (Editor: Chang Jo-yao) 1150421
