(Central News Agency reporter Lin Chiao-lien, Kaohsiung, 21st) Tomorrow is Earth Day. InterContinental Kaohsiung recently announced the launch of a comprehensive sustainable meeting project. The events will not use tablecloths, bottled water, or paper, and will integrate low-carbon actions, health management, and green catering to concretely practice sustainability and environmental protection.

InterContinental Kaohsiung stated through a press release that with the global trend of commercial activities highly prioritizing carbon footprints and ESG compliance, "sustainable performance" has become a core standard for enterprises in evaluating partners. The project is open for reservations starting immediately, offering half-day and full-day meeting options.

InterContinental Kaohsiung stated that in response to Earth Day, it is launching a comprehensive sustainable meeting plan. In addition to introducing a paperless meeting mechanism, it will also eliminate the use of tablecloths to reduce energy and chemical consumption during the washing process; at the same time, it will provide reusable eco-friendly bottles to achieve the goal of plastic reduction.

Regarding transportation, the hotel leverages its proximity to MRT and light rail stations and has installed electric vehicle charging facilities, encouraging attendees to use low-carbon transportation for their commute to reduce overall carbon emissions. During meetings, body composition testing and stretching classes are also provided, incorporating health management into the meeting experience.

In terms of catering, the hotel noted that meeting meals are planned as a semi-buffet menu by its in-house restaurants, using local ingredients and contracted agricultural products. Food waste treatment equipment has also been introduced to convert food waste into fertilizer, which is returned to farms, forming a circular economy model. Ingredient sources cover local livestock, agricultural products, and seafood, to shorten food miles and reduce carbon footprints.

In addition, the hotel also provides a "Sustainable Meeting Project Certificate" after the event. The certificate records the carbon reduction and environmental protection measures adopted during the activity, for enterprises to include in their ESG or CSR reports, enhancing the visualization and international benchmarking of sustainable achievements.

InterContinental Kaohsiung General Manager Chou Ya-fu stated that he hopes to create a meeting model that combines efficiency and sustainable value by integrating environmental and health elements, allowing enterprises to simultaneously practice social responsibility in their business activities.
