Taipei, April 21 (CNA) - The case of Tseng Chih-hsin, the head of Yunyun Technology, who is suspected of killing his Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Mr. Liang, was heard today in the Taipei District Court's citizen judge court. The prosecutor stated that Tseng's 'arrogance became a weapon of workplace bullying,' while Tseng's defense counsel indicated that he fully pleads guilty. The verdict is set to be announced on April 30.

Tseng Chih-hsin is suspected of fatally stabbing his CTO, Mr. Liang, on March 7, 2025, before injuring himself. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted Tseng for murder and transferred the case to the Taipei District Court for a trial by citizen judges.

During today's hearing, the prosecutor presented their case with the theme, 'When Arrogance Becomes a Weapon of Workplace Bullying.' They argued that Tseng, as CEO, was accustomed to being in control. When the CTO offered suggestions on the eve of his resignation, Tseng felt the need to eliminate dissenting voices, not by communication or systemic solutions, but by preparing a knife to murder the victim.

In the opening statement, Tseng's defense counsel stated that the defendant is deeply remorseful, fully pleads guilty, and extends his utmost apologies to the victim.

The defense argued that they hope the judges will comprehensively consider the evidence, the defendant's psychological state, whether the act was a result of a gradual accumulation of various developing events, and whether there was an interplay between the various pressures. She believes that judging culpability is not just about the 'result' but also about understanding the 'process.' The defendant indeed made a mistake and is willing to take responsibility for his actions, and will not evade responsibility for the damages.

The prosecutor presented a post made by the CTO within the company just before his resignation: 'Every one of these products is like my child. They also represent the dreams and efforts of many people and carry the trust of many users. I regret that I cannot protect them until the end. The manager's distrust, suspicion, humiliation, and bullying towards me have made it impossible for me to contribute my efforts any longer... I have said all I can, take care of yourselves.'

The investigation revealed that Tseng and the CTO had frequent friction and disagreements at work. Consequently, Tseng purchased a forged chef's knife on February 26 of last year and stored it in a company cabinet. After seeing the CTO post an article criticizing the company's management in a company group chat on March 6, and knowing that the CTO was about to resign, Tseng invited him and Yunyun's HR director, surnamed Lu, to a meeting room on the afternoon of March 7 to handle the handover and resignation procedures.

The prosecution stated that on the afternoon of March 7, Tseng hid the chef's knife in the left breast pocket of the vest he was wearing and went to the meeting room to meet with the CTO and the HR director. While the three were discussing whether to retract the CTO's article, Tseng pretended to leave the room, walked behind the CTO, and fiercely stabbed him at least nine times in the head, back, and neck. The HR director immediately intervened and shouted for help.

Two other managers at Yunyun heard the commotion and went to the meeting room. Seeing them, Tseng injured himself with the knife but was stopped by the HR director and others. The CTO was sent to the hospital but was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m. the same day due to a puncture wound to the upper left lung and multiple muscle injuries. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150421
