(Central News Agency reporter Wu Chia-hao, Taipei, 21st) Google began rolling out its Chrome browser integrated with the artificial intelligence (AI) model Gemini in the United States and a few other regions last September, offering various AI functions to help users search for and understand information more easily. Today, Google announced the launch of the Gemini-powered Chrome in Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region, supporting over 50 languages.
Charmaine Dsilva, Chrome Product Director, stated in an official blog post that the browser has become a core tool for handling work, learning new things, and connecting with the world. However, sometimes tasks such as reading lengthy and difficult academic papers or looking for dinner inspiration can be tedious and time-consuming.
The AI functions of Gemini-powered Chrome are driven by the latest Gemini 3.1 model and are first appearing on desktop and iOS Chrome browsers. Android device users can activate Gemini for assistance by long-pressing the power button while browsing web pages or operating other applications in Chrome.
When users need to summarize a complex article or seek creative inspiration, they no longer need to leave the currently viewed web page. By clicking the Gemini icon in the upper right corner of the tab, they can directly converse with the browser's dedicated assistant via the Chrome sidebar, getting quick assistance while maintaining their workflow.
Gemini can understand the context of the current Chrome tab, such as quickly summarizing long tech articles or creating specification comparison tables; it can also directly connect to the YouTube API to provide video summaries with timestamp links, allowing users to jump directly to specific segments.
Through the "Personalized Intelligence" feature, Gemini can remember specific user information, such as family names and school calendars, enabling it to recommend travel itineraries based on personal preferences and directly generate Gmail drafts to send to family members.
In a practical test browsing the official website of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, when asked Gemini about the results of the April 19th game, Gemini could not only summarize the season-opening performance of a single team but also analyze the reasons for the April 19th loss, including a starting pitcher collapse, bullpen struggles, and critical defensive errors. If users want to watch weekend games, Gemini can even initiate agent tasks to help inquire about remaining seats and ticket prices in specific hot zones, demonstrating very high practicality.
