(Central News Agency, Tokyo, 21st, by reporter Tai Ya-chen) A major accident occurred this morning at "Tokyo Dome City Attractions" in Bunkyo, Tokyo. A 24-year-old female employee was caught by a suddenly falling seat during routine maintenance of an amusement ride. She was later rescued but pronounced dead.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has launched an investigation to clarify the cause of the accident and determine if there were any lapses in safety management.

According to NHK and TBS reports, police and the Tokyo Fire Department received a report around 11:50 AM that an employee was "caught in an amusement ride" at the park. The accident occurred at a ride called "Flying Balloon," which ascends and descends. The 24-year-old employee, Hina Uemura, was conducting a monthly routine maintenance check with five colleagues.

The operating company stated that the ride can accommodate 12 people and its seats move up and down while rotating, reaching a maximum height of about 10 meters. At the time of the incident, Uemura was standing on a ladder inspecting a support pillar when the seat, which was supposedly stopped at the top, allegedly fell suddenly, trapping her between the pillar and the seat.

Firefighters arrived and partially dismantled the ride's structure to begin the rescue. It took about 5 hours to free Uemura around 5:00 PM. However, she was in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest when rescued and was later pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Due to this accident, "Tokyo Dome City Attractions" was temporarily closed today and announced it will also remain closed from tomorrow to confirm safety.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the equipment's operational status, maintenance procedures, and safety measures to clarify the cause of the accident and to determine if there were any issues with safety management. (Editor: Hsieh Yi-hsuan) 1150421
