Cho Jung-tai: Appoints 4 CEC Commissioners, Submits List of 3 Additional Nominees Simultaneously

(Central News Agency reporter Chen Chun-hua, Taipei, 21st) Premier Cho Jung-tai stated that in preparation for the year-end general election, the four Central Election Commission (CEC) commissioners approved by the Legislative Yuan will be appointed today, with immediate arrangements for handover. A list of three additional commissioner nominees will also be submitted simultaneously; individuals who are non-partisan, have a legal background, and long-term public service experience have been identified, capable of fulfilling all duties. He hopes the Legislative Yuan will swiftly schedule their review.

The Legislative Yuan will invite the Premier, Director-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics, and Minister of Finance to report on the compilation process of the "FY 115 Central Government General Budget Bill" and be questioned (including reports on salary increases for volunteer soldiers and retirement pensions for police and firefighters).

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Legislator Fan Yun questioned the direction of the additional CEC commissioner nominations. Cho Jung-tai said that the CEC is an independent agency and needs to quickly resume normal operations to cope with the upcoming year-end general election. Although he still has "some feelings" about the four approved CEC commissioners, he will appoint them today and arrange for immediate handover.

Cho Jung-tai pointed out that regarding the three additional CEC commissioner nominees, the principle of the CEC as an independent agency will be upheld, seeking individuals who are non-partisan, have a legal background, and long-term public service experience, capable of fulfilling all duties.
