New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi today inspected the construction of the Banqiao Xinyi Elementary School underground parking lot. He stated that the project, featuring three underground levels, will provide 259 car parking spaces upon completion. The team is striving to finish the project by November this year, along with widening sidewalks and improving school paths for safer student access.

During his inspection this morning, Hou was joined by several city councilors who provided suggestions. The total budget for the project is NT$690 million. In addition to the parking spaces, the school's basketball and dodgeball courts will be renovated. Currently, the overall progress stands at 76.10%.

Hou pointed out that the parking lot will not only alleviate local parking pressure but is also designed with a 'human-centric' transportation focus. It integrates the parking entrance with school gates and widens pedestrian paths to ensure smooth and safe travel for students and residents.

To relieve parking pressure across New Taipei, the city has secured NT$20.64 billion for 27 projects under the Forward-looking Infrastructure Plan, with the central government providing NT$4.97 billion. Over the past seven years, 126 parking lots have been completed, providing approximately 14,000 car spaces and 10,000 motorcycle spaces. Twelve more are currently under construction.

Transportation Bureau Director Zhong Ming-shi noted that smart technology is being used for site management to minimize the impact on the school and residents. The team is working hard to keep the schedule on track despite minor impacts from school anniversary activities.
