(CNA Ankara 15th) Authorities in Turkey's southeastern Kahramanmaras province stated that a shooting occurred at a local middle school today. A student opened fire, killing at least 4 people, including classmates, and injuring at least 20. This is the second school shooting in Turkey in two days.

According to Reuters, Kahramanmaras Governor Mukerrem Unluer told the media that the incident resulted in the deaths of 3 students and 1 teacher. The shooter also died in the attack.

Unluer said the student was an 8th grader at the school who brought his father's gun hidden in a backpack to carry out the attack.

School shootings are extremely rare in Turkey.

TV footage from the scene showed police cars and ambulances arriving at the school gates, with police and crowds gathering. Justice Minister Akin Gurlek stated on X that an investigation into the incident has been launched.

Yesterday, in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa, another shooter opened fire at his alma mater, injuring at least 16 people, including students and teachers, before taking his own life. (Compiled by He Hung-ju) 1150415
