(Central News Agency, Yunlin County, April 20) - Non-partisan Yunlin County Councilor Su Junhao announced last night that due to career and family reasons, he has decided not to seek re-election this year. Considering constituent services, his assistant and Taixi Township Representative Zhao Yuxiang will take over. Su Junhao's father, former Yunlin County Speaker Su Jinhuang, said he respects his son's wishes.

Su Junhao posted on his personal Facebook yesterday evening, stating that due to career planning and family factors, he has decided not to run for re-election as a councilor this year, and thanked everyone for their support and help over the past decade.

As Su Junhao carries on the family's political legacy, having served as deputy speaker, and his younger brother Su Zefeng served as a councilor in Chiayi City for three terms, including deputy speaker during the 10th term, which became a local talking point, Su Junhao's announcement not to seek re-election has sent shockwaves through the region.

Su Junhao stated today that at 50 years old, he needs to plan for the future, so he had the idea of not running for re-election late last year. Additionally, his wife is ill, and he has business to attend to, leaving him no time for constituent services, so he informed his father, and only received his approval early this month.

Regarding the continuation of the family's political legacy, Su Junhao believes that politics is everyone's business, and it's time for aspiring young individuals to take over. His cousin Su Guoyi will run for councilor in the next term, and other family members hold positions in the Sihu Township Office and Farmers' Association, so local services will remain unchanged.

When asked by reporters if he might challenge for a legislative seat in the future, Su Junhao responded that he will first take a break for 1-2 years and focus on business development, with no other plans currently.

Su Jinhuang told CNA in a phone interview today that Su Junhao (51 years old) served as councilor for the 18th, 19th, and 20th terms, including deputy speaker for the 18th and 19th terms. As he could not advance further, he harbored thoughts of retirement.

Su Jinhuang stated that he respects his child's wishes, and the continuation of the family's political legacy depends on the timing, allowing family members to reconsider.

Zhao Yuxiang told CNA that he returned to his hometown to care for his parents over 8 years ago and was elected as a Taixi Township Representative before joining Su Junhao's service team. Considering the continuity of constituent services, he will now run for councilor. (Editor: Zhang Mingkun)
