(Central News Agency Reporter Hong Su-chin, Taipei, April 20) The film "Sunshine Girls Choir," which received NT$12 million in subsidies, has caused controversy due to its promotional language in China. Director Lin Hsiao-chien stated today that the Weibo posts were not written by the production team and that the subsidy will be returned per procedure.

The film's distributor in China used terms such as "China Taiwan region" and "One China, One Emotion" on its official Weibo page, prompting the Ministry of Culture to request an explanation from the production team.

Lin Hsiao-chien stated via Facebook that producer Liu Wei-ran had already explained the situation to the Ministry of Culture on March 31. According to current regulations, Taiwanese films entering the mainland China market must go through designated local distributors such as China Film Group Corporation and Huaxia Film Distribution. Promotional copy and marketing operations are led by these local distributors according to market norms, and the Weibo posts were not written by the production team.

Furthermore, Lin Hsiao-chien said that according to the contract, films with profits must return subsidies on a pro-rata basis. Since the profit threshold was met in mid-January 2026, the production team has proactively communicated and consulted with the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development on the relevant procedures. The return process requires completion of screening operations, preparation of necessary reports, and submission of relevant supporting documents for auditing. The process is currently ongoing according to legal procedures, and the production team will certainly return the subsidy as required.

Lin Hsiao-chien stated that the actors and staff who worked hard should not be subjected to misunderstanding and accusations. He sincerely hopes that "Sunshine Girls Choir" will serve as a better starting point for breaking through practical difficulties in copyright sales. (Editor: Li Ming-tsung) 1150420
