(Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Chun-lin, Taipei, 16th) In the case of the abused and murdered toddler "Kaikai", a social worker surnamed Chen from the Child Welfare League was accused of altering visitation records three times. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted her on charges including negligence causing death, while Chen denied the offenses. The Taipei District Court today sentenced Chen to 2 years in prison for negligence causing death and found her not guilty of document forgery. The verdict can be appealed.

In the case involving the abuse and death of the 1-year-10-month-old toddler "Kaikai", the Taiwan High Court on January 27 this year sentenced babysitter sister Liu Tsai-hsuan to life imprisonment and Liu Jo-lin to 18 years in prison. The Taipei District Prosecutors Office found that after the Child Welfare League's social worker Chen visited the toddler three times, she failed to accurately record her visits despite knowing there were abnormalities. In August 2024, she was indicted for crimes including negligence causing death and exercising documents with false business entries.

After a year and a half of trial, the Taipei District Court today sentenced Chen to 2 years in prison for negligence causing death, though the court has not yet explained the criminal facts determined by the verdict and the reasons for sentencing.

Before the verdict was announced this morning, a large crowd of citizens had already gathered outside the court waiting for the decision. (Editor: Li Hsi-chang) 1150416
