Northern Taiwan Plants Over 1 Million Trees, Annual Carbon Reduction Exceeds 1284 Tons

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih and representatives from seven other northern Taiwanese counties and cities jointly announced today that the 'Northern Taiwan Regional Development Promotion Committee' has achieved the milestone of 'planting one million trees.' Over one million seedlings have been planted, resulting in an annual carbon reduction exceeding 1284 metric tons.

New Taipei City Government held a press conference to announce the results of the 'Plant a Tree for the Earth – One Million People Plant One Million Trees' plan, jointly promoted by eight northern Taiwanese counties and cities. Hou Yu-ih and representatives from seven other northern counties and cities jointly announced that the plan has reached the 'planting one million trees' milestone.

Hou Yu-ih stated that the achievement of planting one million trees in just one year is due to the active participation and collaborative efforts of various county and city governments and civil society. This makes tree planting not only an environmental action but also a commitment to future generations.

He added that New Taipei City will continue to promote diverse tree-planting policies, integrating urban afforestation, corporate sponsorships, and community participation to gradually deepen environmental protection efforts, making 'planting a tree' a part of everyone's daily life.

The city government stated that the 'Northern Taiwan Regional Development Promotion Committee' is composed of eight counties and cities: New Taipei City, Taipei City, Keelung City, Taoyuan City, Yilan County, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, and Miaoli County. Currently, over one million seedlings have been planted, with an annual carbon reduction exceeding 1284 metric tons, demonstrating the results of cross-city cooperation in promoting tree planting for net-zero emissions.
