The Kyiv Ballet's official website introduces "Swan Lake" by stating that this version is full of the free spirit and superb artistry of Ukrainian artists. "We bring this ballet to the world as a symbol that we will not yield to the aggressor, Russia."
According to press materials released today by Wide Arts, the Kyiv Ballet was founded by Oleksandr Stoianov, principal dancer of the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet. The company is known for its highly disciplined ensemble work, precise and delicate dance techniques, and emotionally charged interpretations, aiming to inherit the classics and promote cross-cultural exchange.
The music for "Swan Lake" was composed by Tchaikovsky, and it is one of the most popular classical ballet repertoires. Under Stoianov's curation, this performance of "Swan Lake" is based on the artistic vocabulary established by the legendary Ukrainian choreographer Anatoly Shekera. The characterizations of the Swan Queen and the Black Swan, including the Black Swan's 32 fouetté turns, constantly challenge the dancers' skills.
The Kyiv Ballet's production of "Swan Lake" will be performed from August 21st to 23rd at the Grand Theater of the Taipei Performing Arts Center. (Editor: Wu Su-rou) 1150407
