(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu, Keelung, 20th) A cable fell on Chongfa Street in Keelung City this morning, with reports of a motorcyclist falling and being injured. Police are reviewing surveillance footage to clarify the situation, and have cordoned off the area and implemented traffic control. Relevant units first cut the cable, and traffic resumed at 9:10 AM.

Chongfa Street is an important arterial road in Xinyi District, Keelung City, and a vital route for residents of the Shenaokeng area to commute to and from the city center. Around 7 AM this morning, a bundle of cables suddenly fell across the road on Chongfa Street, causing significant traffic congestion. After receiving the report, police immediately dispatched personnel to cordon off and direct traffic, advising road users to take alternative routes.

Keelung City Councilor Ho Shu-ping of the Kuomintang pointed out that a citizen witnessed a motorcyclist falling and being injured due to being affected by the cable. She immediately reported it after receiving the notification. However, the Keelung City Fire Department and police did not receive any related reports. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage to clarify whether anyone was injured.

After inspection by Taipower Company personnel, it was confirmed that the fallen lines were not owned by Taipower, and were judged to be fiber optic cables. On-site personnel stated that the fallen cables included those from multiple operators and some unidentified cables. To quickly clear the road obstruction, after reporting to and obtaining consent from the Keelung City Government, engineering personnel cut the fallen cables. The road control was lifted at 9:10 AM, and normal traffic resumed. Police officers withdrew after directing traffic at the scene.

One operator stated that upon receiving the notification, they immediately dispatched personnel to the scene for emergency repairs and began clearance operations to quickly restore traffic and minimize the affected area.

Regarding the cause of the cable breakage, police and relevant units are still investigating to clarify responsibility and will continue to strengthen facility inspections and safety management. (Editor: Wu Su-jou) 1150420
