Keelung Childcare Upgrade: 197 Surveillance Cameras to Transmit to Cloud

Keelung City Government has inspected a total of 178 surveillance cameras in all 18 childcare centers, with plans to replace 142 and add 19 new cameras. Upon completion, the total number of cameras will be 197, and the video data will be migrated to the cloud, with a total budget of approximately NT$4.2 million.

Wu Yu-chieh, Director of the Keelung City Government's Department of Children and Youth Affairs, told CNA today that Keelung has 16 childcare centers currently operating, including 6 public centers, 8 quasi-public centers, and 2 private centers. Additionally, two public centers are undergoing acceptance checks, located at Xinyi Elementary School and Xiding Elementary School, with a target launch before summer.

Wu Yu-chieh stated that to protect the safety and quality of childcare for infants and young children, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs actively responds to the "Childcare Services Act" passed by the Legislative Yuan. Continuous improvements are being made. Early this year, inspections were conducted on 178 surveillance cameras in all 18 childcare centers to assess their location, functionality, and remaining lifespan. This year, cameras older than 5 years or lacking audio recording capabilities will be replaced, with an estimated 142 units to be replaced and 19 new ones added, bringing the total to 197.

Wu Yu-chieh pointed out that the city government is also simultaneously launching the "Cloud Migration of Surveillance Footage for All Childcare Centers" project. Future footage will be uploaded to the cloud to ensure data integrity and transparency. The city government adheres to the principle of balancing supervision and guidance, strengthening quality control through irregular visits and enhancing professional development for childcare staff, creating a friendly and transparent childcare environment.
