Kaohsiung City Department of Health today conducted an environmental cleanup project targeting Zhengyi Market and surrounding communities, thoroughly clearing piled-up clutter in idle market stalls and containers that could collect water. A total of 650 kilograms of garbage and waste were removed throughout the day.

The Department of Health stated that the joint environmental cleanup project included personnel from the Economic Development Bureau, Department of Health, Lingya District Office and Health Center, Environmental Protection Bureau's Cleaning Brigade, and the local Zhengyi Village Office. The focus of the cleanup was on clearing clutter from idle market stalls and eliminating containers that could collect water. A total of 650 kilograms of garbage and waste were removed throughout the day.

In addition, health personnel conducted inspections based on the "Guidelines for Good Hygiene Practices for Food" (GHP) to supervise cooked food vendors in implementing operational environment cleanliness and setting up pest prevention facilities. A total of 7 notices for timely improvement were issued today for deficiencies including ingredients not being properly covered, ingredients not stored off the ground, and unclean refrigeration equipment, with orders for timely improvement.

The Department of Health also stated that during today's inspection, a cooked food stall was found to be in violation by keeping a pet green-headed duck and not having any pest control measures in place, which violates the Guidelines for Good Hygiene Practices for Food. Following on-site guidance, the vendor has moved the pet duck into a cart and away from the work area.

The Department of Health reminds that no poultry, livestock, pets, or other animals are allowed in food preparation areas. If animals are found entering, protective and cleaning measures should be immediately taken to prevent contamination of food, raw materials, or packaging materials. At the same time, it calls for vendors and citizens to cooperate, avoid piling up clutter, enhance environmental cleanliness management, and implement rat and mosquito prevention measures.
